Working on Hoi An Rice Fields: An Unforgettable Experience for International Tourists
Nguyen Van Lanh, Vice Chairman of Hoi An City People’s Committee, stated that the festival offers an opportunity for farmers to share their experiences in rice cultivation and improve the quality of rice production. It also contributes to the preservation and promotion of the intangible cultural values associated with traditional rice farming.
Following the ceremony, participants were able to engage in various engaging activities, including witnessing buffalo plowing in the fields and water bailing with bamboo buckets. Notably, the event attracted a significant number of international tourists who eagerly learned about rice cultivation in Vietnam. Despite the heavy rain, tourists fearlessly embraced the muddy fields and actively joined farmers in planting rice.

Among them, Melanie, a female tourist from Spain, along with her family, wore raincoats, boots, and Non La (conical hats) as they eagerly stepped into the paddy fields alongside other farmers. Melanie and her children formed two teams and used buckets to scoop water into the fields.
In addition to Melanie’s family, many other visitors also experienced the life of a farmer for a day. The farmers in Hoi An warmly cheered on the tourists as they accomplished the tasks of watering, plowing, and planting rice. Furthermore, the Cam Chau Field Festival 2024 also provided traditional dishes from Quang Nam, such as chicken rice, Quang noodles, and Banh Xeo.

With its charming architecture, cobblestone streets, and vibrant yellow shop fronts adorned with colorful lanterns, it comes as no surprise that Hoi An is often hailed as one of the most beautiful destinations in Vietnam. In 2021, Hoi An, recognized as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site since 1999, received the title of Asia’s Leading Cultural City Destination at the World Travel Awards. However, Hoi An offers much more than just awards and picturesque scenery. The town boasts a rich history and has been a melting pot for people from all over the world.
From the 15th to the 19th centuries, Hoi An served as a significant trading post in Southeast Asia, facilitating the exchange of goods, ideas, and cultures.
Today, tourism plays a pivotal role in the town’s economy. However, the traces of its captivating history can still be found everywhere. Explore any of its charming pedestrian-friendly streets, and you will encounter influences from various eras, places, and cultures. Hoi An’s abundance of shophouses also makes it a renowned destination for purchasing silk and other exquisite items.
