Philippines’ First Lady explores traditional flower market in Hanoi



The market offers a wide selection of popular flowers for the Tet holiday, the biggest celebration in Vietnam. Some of the flowers available include peach flowers, kumquats, dahlias, violets, gladioluses, and narcissuses.


In the photo, Pham Thi Thanh Tam (in bright pink long dress), spouse of Vietnamese president Vo Van Thuong, introduces the First Lady of the Philippines to the significance of peach blossoms during the Tet holiday in Vietnam. Philippines President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and his spouse are on a State visit to Vietnam at the invitation of President Vo Van Thuong.


Peach blossoms are believed to bring good luck, happiness, and prosperity in the new year.


First Lady Louise Araneta-Marcos is delighted to learn about Vietnamese peach blossoms and receives a small branch of peach blossom from the spouse of the Vietnamese President.


The two First Ladies take a stroll along Hang Ma street, which offers a variety of Tet items for home decorations.


The street is beautifully decorated with festive items, especially during the Tet holiday.


Both First Ladies are introduced to the history of Hang Trong folk paintings, a traditional genre of Vietnamese woodcut paintings originating from Hanoi.


They then enjoy sipping tea while listening to stories about traditional Vietnamese houses.

Hanoi’s First Bike-Only Lane Set to Open

The Hanoi Department of Transport has announced that Hanoi will soon have a new 4km long and 4m wide cycle path along the To Lich River. This dedicated bicycle lane, which will pass through the Cau Giay and Dong Da districts, is set to open on February 1, 2024. The purpose of this project is to provide a safe and convenient transportation option for cyclists in the city. The cycle path will connect Lang Station of Cat Linh – Ha Dong Metro Line and No.8 Station of the Nhon-Hanoi Metro Line. The total investment for the project is estimated to be VND65 billion (US$2.64 million). There will be six public bicycle stations along the route, including two major stations at the Transportation University and Lang Station. These stations will provide approximately 100 bicycles and electric bikes to cater to the needs of Hanoi’s residents and students. Vietnamese publications promoted at Frankfurt Book Fair

In addition to the promotion of Vietnamese publications at the fair, the delegation also held working sessions with renowned foreign publishing houses such as Tallandier of France, Springer Nature, Oxford University and Cambridge University of the UK, and C. H. BECK of Germany. The meetings focused on boosting cooperation in the fields of publishing, copyright, expert training and organisation of international book fairs, among others. The delegation exchanged copyrights for nearly 20 titles with publishers of Britain, France, Germany, and China.
